My Warranty

My Warranty - How do I know I'm covered?

Vehicles have a manufacturer's warranty for a period of time.

The warranty period is based on 2 factors...

Factor 1. Warranty Period is based on years owned after purchase.

Factor 2. Warranty Period is based on miles driven after purchase.

For example: 3 Years or 36,000 miles (whichever comes first)

This warranty period is considered bumper to bumper.  The bumper to bumper warranty will typically cover parts that fail to operate due to poor craftsmanship like electronics and parts that are encased in oils or fluids like engine, transmission and final drive.  However, parts that are attached to larger components like an engine may not be replaced in most cases, like an alternator.  The alternator is a seperate part attached to the engine, if the engine fails the warranty will only cover the new engine but you retain the original alternator and it is installed onto the newly replaced engine.

If you have owned your new vehicle for 3 years and the bumper to bumper coverage has expired but you still have not reached 36,000 miles (in the example above) the coverage on your remaining miles will be considered powertrain coverage ONLY and will only include coverage to items pertaining to the drive of the vehicle that are encased in oils and fluids like the engine, transmission and/or final drive.

Some engines have their own warranty period separate from the rest of the vehicle.  Ask your sales consultant or service advisor about your engine's warranty period or refer to the warranty contract for an explanation of coverage.

What is an extended warranty?

You can also purchase an extended warranty when you buy your vehicle.  This extended warranty period will activate once the manufacturer's warranty expires.

The extended warranty coverage is typically considered to be powertrain coverage only and will NOT be considered bumper to bumper coverage unless you specifically purchase a bumper to bumper premium type warranty coverage plan that specifically covers electronics and other components that are normally covered during the manufacturers bumper to bumper warranty period.

It is the customers responsibility to know and understand the vehicles warranty coverage.  But, it's never scary when you buy from Harry!

If you have any questions about your warranty coverage you may call, text, email or chat with us from our website during normal business hours. Or, refer the the warranty contract you signed for an explanation of warranty coverage.

What is NOT COVERED on my manufacturer's warranty or my extended warranty?

Vehicle components not covered on warranty are considered "wear out items" and include, but not limited to, and are as follows:

1. Main battery
2. Tires
3. Hoses
4. Belts
5. Brake Pads
6. Rotors
7. Shocks
8. Struts
9. Spark Plugs
10. Filters

Since these items fall under the normal maintenance of your vehicle and must be replaced periodically they are considered "wear out items" and will not be covered on warranty.

What if my failed part/component was tampered with or received physical damage?

If the manufacturer or extended warranty company finds that any failed component filed in a warranty claim has been tampered with or received physical damage the manufacturer or extended warranty company reserves the right to deny coverage and customer will be responsible for the cost of party, labor and repairs.

Example: If you cross thread the oil pan drain plug and and the engine blows up when all the motor oil drains out you may be denied warranty coverage.  OR, if the vehicle has been involved in an accident and the fail part or component is obviously damaged due to the accident you may be denied warranty coverage. OR, if the vehicle has a vermin infestation you may be denied coverage.

Expect this verbiage to be in the warranty contract when you sign it.

If you find yourself in this type of situation you will want to fall back on your insurance provider to find coverage.

What is a lifetime warranty?

Lifetime warranties for vehicles do NOT exist and are a gimmick to get you to come back to a dealership and have your vehicle serviced exclusively at their service drive. The list of stipulations for voiding a gimmick "lifetime" warranty are completely unrealistic and unreasonable.

Harry Robinson Automotive Family will NOT participate in this unhealthy business practice.  At Harry Robinson Automotive Family you will only be offered real warranty contracts with real coverage.  It's never scary when you buy from Harry!
